The service

The Site is a free online tool that suggests surnames, first names and their meanings, together with guides about naming conventions in different cultures. It is provided for information, creative and entertainment purposes. We may add, change or remove features, pages or name lists at any time without notice.

Who may use the Site

The Site is intended for a general audience. If you are under the age of 13, or under the age of digital consent where you live, please use the Site with the involvement of a parent or guardian. You are responsible for making sure your use of the Site complies with the laws that apply to you.

Using the names you generate

Surnames are not owned by anyone. You may use any name you generate on the Site, including the original fantasy and genre names, in novels, screenplays, games, role-play, software test data, pen names or any other project, commercial or not, without attribution. Real surnames belong to real families, so avoid using a name in a way that could defame or harass a real person.

Our content

The Site's design, text, guides and the compiled name lists as a collection are protected by copyright. You may quote short passages with a link back to the Site. You may not copy the Site's pages or datasets in bulk, republish them as your own, or use them to build a competing service.

Acceptable use

When using the Site you agree not to:

• scrape, download or mirror the name data or pages in bulk by automated means;
• send traffic that overloads or disrupts the Site, or attempt to bypass its security;
• use the Site for any unlawful purpose, or to create content that impersonates, defames or harasses real people;
• interfere with the advertisements shown on the Site in a way that generates invalid clicks or impressions.

Accuracy

We work to keep meanings, origins and spellings accurate, but name etymology is often uncertain and many surnames have several possible origins. The content is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including accuracy, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. Do not rely on the Site as a genealogical, legal or professional source.

Advertising and third-party links

The Site may show advertisements provided by third parties such as Google AdSense, and may link to other websites. We do not control and are not responsible for the content, products or practices of advertisers or linked sites. Your dealings with them are solely between you and them. How advertising partners use cookies is described in our privacy policy.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Last Name Generators and its operators are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits or goodwill, arising from your use of or inability to use the Site. Because the Site is free, our total liability for any claim relating to it is limited to zero, or to the lowest amount permitted by applicable law.

Entire agreement and severability
